Ruud (1958) is a Netherlands based Mechanical Engineer in the Iron and Steel business. Every spare minute is spent on photography whenever possible.
His photography career started in his young childhood with a simple camera won at a country fair. It was short lived due to the quality of the camera. The real thing started with the purchase of a Minolta X700 camera in 1982. Mainly photographing in black and white and developing film and prints in his darkroom. On larger trips the shots were captured on slides. Trips were made to Iceland, Greece and other European countries.
After starting a family the photography business went to the background. Some digital attempts were made but without any satisfaction. A full-frame Canon 5D Mark II was purchased early in 2011. A steep learning process followed and the spark ignited the flame again. The main focus is on landscape photography with a special interest in long exposures.
The equipment used by Ruud is a Canon 5D Mark II body, a 24-70mm f/2.8, a 16-35mm f/2.8, LEE filters such as the “Big Stopper”, several neutral density and graded filters. All shots are taken from a Gitzo GT5542LS tripod with Arca-Swiss P1 ballhead. Post processing is done in Lightroom 4.3 with plug-ins such as Nik Silver Efex Pro 2 and Viveza 2.
Inspiration is gained from magazines as Outdoor Photography and Black+White Photography. At least once per year a workshop is attended. Ruud is member of “Fotokring Heemskerk”, a local photography society.
